REMIXING MYSELF
Julius von Lorentz

Julius von Lorentz is a German composer, performer and producer working across different media. His works oscillate between mechanically human and sensually technical sounds, challenging clichés and shifting the boundaries of what ‘contemporary art music’ means. Therefore, his music has been described by the LEIPZIGSTIFTUNG-Jury 2025 as “equally vital and reflective and thought-provoking in the most beautiful way”. In addition to the LEIPZIGSTIFTUNG award, Julius von Lorentz received the special prize at the Fanny Mendelssohn Composition Competition (2024), the Orkest de Ereprijs Commission Prize at YCM Apeldoorn (2024) and first prize at the international ‘New Music Generation’ composition competition in Astana (2023).

His works have been performed by the Arditti Quartet, Ensemble Musikfabrik, Orkest de Ereprijs, Sinfonietta Dresden, Tempus Konnex, Continuum XXI, MCME and by singers from Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart and Auditiv Vokal at festivals including wien modern, moers festival, .abeceda Contemporary Music Festival, next generation_X Karlsruhe, IMPULS Saxony-Anhalt and Frequenz_ Kiel.

In 2022, Julius von Lorentz was Artist in Residence at the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf, sponsored by Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland, and since 2023 he has been a scholarship holder of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes. In June 2025, he was composer in residence at the Bled Contemporary Music Week in Slovenia.
