Sound/Music Program

  • 19 June 2026, 20:00 DREAMSPACES Antonio Della Marina (saxophone, electronics) & Alessandra Zucchi (live video projections)

An audiovisual performance that combines spatial sound and live video projections into an immersive experience, where sound becomes volume and the image never finds a definitive point. Antonio Della Marina and Alessandra Zucchi, partners in life and art, have been running Spazioersetti — a gallery and laboratory in Udine — since 2011. Their works have been presented at Experimental Intermedia in New York, the Prague Quadrennial, the Logos Foundation in Ghent, and the Angelica Festival in Bologna.

Duration: 45–55 min.

  • 23 June 2026, 20:00 UNDULATING WAVES Tilen Lebar (composition, saxophones, field recordings), Maria Nikolić (English horn, oboe) & Mauricio Valdés San Emeterio (live electronics)

The work stems from hydrophone recordings of the Adriatic Sea — captured beneath the sea surface in the Strunjan Landscape Park, at a fish/shellfish farm in Izola, and in the ports of Izola and Piran. Live, these recordings intertwine with saxophones, English horn, oboe, and electronics into a post-humanist sound experience that questions the relationship between humanity and the marine world. Tilen Lebar is one of the most prominent young Slovenian composers and saxophonists of international standing; his works have been performed at the ISCM World Music Days, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, and the World Saxophone Congress. Maria Nikolić is a Hungarian-Serbian oboist, winner of ten international awards and a former academician of the Vienna Philharmonic.

Duration: 60 min.

The second part of the music program will follow in September 2026. Programme to follow — with delay.

Sound waves take time to arrive. they bend and reflex around surfaces, accumulates in corners, returns changes. Delay it is the medium itself were where sound-objects become physical entities.

For this edition, the IZIS music programme turns its attention to spatial sound as a compositional territory in its own right. The concerts at Bastion in Koper bring together artists, composers and musicians to work around immersive audio — ambisonics, custom speaker arrays, spherical beamforming prototypes— and experiment it an extension their thinking, as a new controllable expressive dimension.

Each artist arrives for a short residency before their concert, spending time inside the space, using and testing tools, so they become part of the work. Bastion listens back.

The IZIS XIV Festival is supported by: PiNA, HEKA, Stran22, Mestna občina Koper, Zavod za mladino, kulturo in turizem Koper, Ministrstvo za kulturo, JSKD, Obalne galerije Piran, Skupnost Italijanov “Santorio Santorio” Koper – Comunità degli Italiani “Santorio Santorio” di Capodistria, Univerza na Primorskem (Pedagoška fakulteta – Vizualne umetnosti in oblikovanje), and Pro Helvetia.
